13 March 2010
Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE
Distances: Short (1.5km swim, 100km bike, 10km run) and Long Distance (3km swim, 200km bike, 20km run)
2010 sees Challenger World extend their event portfolio to the Gulf with the inaugural Abu Dhabi International Triathlon. The project backed by the Abu Dhabi Tourist Authority sees the event raced over 2 new and unique distances. The shorter run leg has been designed to aid quicker recovery for those wanting to use it as a winter warm up for the summer season.
The course will take in some of Abu Dhabi’s most iconic landmarks including the Emirates Palace, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the Corniche and the Yas Marina Formula 1 circuit. If that doesn’t whet the appetite, then the prize fund of $250,000 (which includes $20,000 for age group categories) and the opportunity to race against the world’s best long course triathletes should do!
Conveniently Abu Dhabi also acts as the perfect destination for winter sun. Why not beat those winter blues by taking the family with you for the week? There is no shortage of things to see and do in one of the world’s most vibrant and beautiful holiday destinations.
